Mersey Tobeatic Research Institute (MTRI) is a non-profit cooperative of land owners and researchers that operates a field station in Kempt, Queens County, which provides office work space and overnight accommodations for researchers carrying out studies in the area (www.merseytobeatic.ca).

MTRI’s mandate is to promote sustainable use of natural resources and biodiversity conservation in the Southwest Nova Biosphere Reserve and beyond through research, education, and the operation of a field station. The activities of the organization include education, research, and monitoring of species at risk, aquatic health, and landscape connectivity. MTRI has working committees and a strong board of directors with senior managers who set policy and direction for the organization.
