Mersey Tobeatic Research Institute (MTRI) is a non-profit cooperative of land owners and researchers that operates a field station in Kempt, Queens County, which provides office work space and overnight accommodations for researchers carrying out studies in the area (

MTRI’s mandate is to promote sustainable use of natural resources and biodiversity conservation in the Southwest Nova Biosphere Reserve and beyond through research, education, and the operation of a field station. The activities of the organization include education, research, and monitoring of species at risk, aquatic health, and landscape connectivity. MTRI has working committees and a strong board of directors with senior managers who set policy and direction for the organization.
