SWEPS is primarily concerned with protecting the water quality and maintaining flow regimes within the Shubenacadie River watershed for habitat, drinking water, recreational, and quality of life purposes. SWEPS acts as both a resource and a voice for the community by participating in land-use planning and wastewater treatment discussions within the Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) and the Municipality of East Hants (MEH). SWEPS has previously undertaken community education projects regarding maintenance of on-site septic systems, river clean-ups, drinking water quality protection and water quality testing. SWEPS has successfully completed Adopt-a-Stream projects since 2012.
