North Colchester River Restoration Assoc

Back in 1999 Maritimes and Northeast Pipeline had to make several river crossings in out watershed.  The company used both wet and dry crossing techniques.  Following the laying of the pipeline M&NP started a restoration program.   In time our project took on that responsibility.   Our program has been successful and our work continues.   We are partners with DFO in the building of the Falls fish ladder on the Waugh’s river and we now have a volunteer managed salmon hatchery to stock our rivers.   Challenges lay ahead but dedicated partners and tireless volunteers make tings happen.

2017 will be our sixteeth season. Our objective has remained the same since day one, to enhance fish habitat in our local streams and rivers with the hope that the increase in returning Salmon and Brown Trout will continue.  While our main objective has remained the same several important outcomes of our work have flourished.  Cleaning rivers improves the quality of drinking water in the Tatamagouche watershed.  Our annual projects have provided students (usually High School) with a meaningful summer employment opportunity that will enable them to grow and take on job skills which will last a lifetime.   Our mentoring program ensures this growth.
